Centrifugal Pumps

Course Introduction:                                                   

This course will introduce delegates to the different types of pumps, motors and drives and their associated terminology. Centrifugal and positive-displacement pumps and compressors, packing, mechanical seals and sealing systems, bearings and couplings will all be discussed. The application of the different types of pumps and compressors will be discussed along with their suitability for different operational duties. Pump operation, troubleshooting and maintenance will be dealt with in depth.

The objective of this training program of 5 days duration is to impart Training on Operation, Maintenance and Trouble Shooting aspects of Centrifugal Pumps and compressors commonly used in petroleum / petrochemical / fertilizer and power generation plants. The training covers the theory and practice of centrifugal pumps and compressors and their controls.

Who Should Attend?                                                   

The course is designed and targeted to rotating equipment technicians and engineers in charge of troubleshooting, operating and maintaining of rotating equipment. Also, personnel involved in balancing, aligning and analyzing vibration of rotating machinery.

  • Rotating Equipment and Safety Requirements for Start-Up and Operation.

Principles and Procedures

  • Rotating machinery maintenance requirement.
  • Types of maintenance and the scope of implementation.
  • Difference between availability and reliability for Rotating Equipment.
  • Basic guidelines for implementing the convenient type of maintenance.

Pumps: Elements and Technical Characteristics

  • How do pumps work?
  • Why do we need pumps?
  • How are pumps powered?

Day 2:

Centrifugal pumps

  • Centrifugal Pumps according to API 610
  • Vertical and Horizontal Pumps
  • Difference between Series and Parallel of pumps arrangements.
  • Pump Performance.
  • Multi Stages Pumps function and usages.
  • Static Elements in Centrifugal Pumps
  • Removing the Rotating Element.

Day 3:

Centrifugal pumps Construction

  • Casing Specification and Function
  • Impeller Types and application
  • Bearing Types and function
  • Types of seals in Centrifugal pump
  • Measuring Impellers and Wearing Rings

Day 4

Alignment Monitoring and Correction

  • Alignment theory and alignment methods
  • Measuring and correction misalignment
  • Laser, rim and face, reverse indicator alignment

Vibration Monitoring and Analysis

  • Vibration detection.
  • Vibration analysis.
  • Balancing single plane and two planes.

Day 5

Inspection, Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Centrifugal Pumps

  • Inspecting the Casing
  • Inspection the Rotating Equipment
  • Bearing Degradation and Replacement
  • Mechanical Seal Problems in Operation and Root Cause Analysis
  • Difference between SAT and FAT for Centrifugal Pumps
  • Difference types of Maintenance for Centrifugal Pumps
  • Troubleshooting of Centrifuging Pumps
  • Shutdown, Pre-commissioning and commission for Centrifugal Pumps
